Democrats Outline Next Steps if Biden Drops Out

Rulebooks Dusted Off as Party Plans for Potential Vacancy

Vice President Harris Considered Frontrunner, Younger Democrats Also in Contention

Washington, D.C. - Democrats are preparing for the unprecedented possibility that President Biden may withdraw from the upcoming election, dusting off party rulebooks to guide their next steps. The Democratic Party's rules outline the process for selecting a new candidate if Biden exits the race before being formally nominated or if a vacancy occurs on the ticket after.

In an interview with ABC News, Biden stated that he would only drop out if "the Lord almighty told him to." However, in the event that he does step aside, it is unclear who would take his place. Vice President Kamala Harris is considered a frontrunner, while a group of younger, rising stars within the Democratic Party are also in contention.
